Off to Konstanz
June 12 2019
We arrived at the Eislingen railroad station via a ride by Chris' boss Patrick, catching the 10:00 train to Stuttgart. From there we took a IC (intercity) train to Singen*, then a local train to Konstanz. We arrived in town at about 2 pm.
[* It was a rainy morning, so we were "Singen in the rain..." ]
The IC ride was very smooth and fast. Once again, we rode mostly through rural parts of Germany, with small villages and lots of cultivated land.
Konstanz
Our hotel in Konstanz is directly across from the train station. It's a lovely old building with a 4-star rating. We settled in and went in search of a late lunch.
The city reminds me a little of Strassburg with old, preserved buildings and narrow cobblestone streets. Konstanz also depends on tourism for much of its economy, and we saw many shops and eateries catering to their trade.
We found a sidewalk cafe to eat lunch. There would be pictures, but I was too slow with my camera!
Lakeside
The Harbor of Konstanz is dominated by a modern statue of a lady called Imperia, who stands 9 meters tall on the end of the pier and rotates slowly every 4 minutes. Otherwise, the harbor is home to lots of private boats, and docking for ferries that ply the Bodensee. Chris and I walked out to the end of the harbor to get a good look at Imperia, then were chased back by the dropping temperatures. It was about 65 degrees by the time we were warming in our room.
