Hamburg Day- Lion King Night
June 8 2019
Christina's daughter and her boyfriend, Mindi and Fin, arrived late Friday night and rushed off to find food at Frau Möller's bar. We all met up in the morning, got a day pass for the bus system, and rode back there for breakfast.
After breakfast, we went on separate missions: Mindi and Fin, who had never been to Hamburg, took a guided bus tour. Chris and I, on our second visit here, visited the City Hall square and roamed around.
The Lion King
We plan to meet up later at the hotel to take a cab to dinner and then catch the ferry boat over to the theater where The Lion King is playing. The venue is on an island in the Hamburg harbor, and a squadron of passenger ferries carry the theater-goers to and from the island.
The show was wonderful!
I was a bit skeptical about seeing a musical in German, adapted from a cartoon movie I'd already seen. I was stunned! We had great seats, the production was amazing: fabulous, creative, puppet-like costumes for animal depictions, great choreography, dazzling lighting, wonderful sets and scenery. The stage was large, with two side stages for drums and dancers. My weak German language skills left me missing some punch lines, but otherwise, it was easy to enjoy!
