New Orleans: 2nd Day

New Orleans Health Food

Our walking tour of the French Quarter was postponed yesterday due to thunderstorms. We got up this morning early to beat the crowd to the Cafe Du Monde for beignets and coffee. We made it today at about 9 am. Our tour started at 10:30, so we prowled around Jackson Square for a while, then reported in.

The group of walkers had swelled to 15 now. We followed our leader like ducklings through the French Quarter, with plenty of stops to look at interesting architechure or historic sites. It was a good tour, and the guide was full of interesting trivia about New Orleans history and celebrities. It was a hot, sunny day though, and by the end of the 2 hours we were tired of learning this stuff. I watched the mule-drawn covered carriages slip by with great envy.

Chris and I broke at a run for a nearby bar and some frosty cold beer. We ordered (me) red beans and rice and (Chris) Caesar salad with grilled catfish. We shared an order of char-grilled oysters, which Chris gobbled up happily, somewhat to my greedy dismay.

After lunch, we headed back to the room for an afternoon siesta, avoiding the hottest part of the day, and a subsequent thunderstorm. When we awoke at 4pm, it seemed time for some shopping before another meal. Chris bought gifts, I bought a few tshirts, and we wandered into another restaurant for dinner. After dinner and a few drinks, we headed home again. Tired tourists.
