Bridge Players Have A Life Outside Bridge?

DR. LORRAINE HARRIS

Dr. Lorraine Harris, a fellow bridge player and certified bridge instructor is involved in the Orlando Chapter of Chums, Inc.  Chums’ program initiative is to teach MATH, MANNERS, AND MENTORING to children in the Parramore District.  This summer Lorraine used her teaching and bridge skills to teach 13 children, grades six through ten, from the Parramore Kids Zone bridge!

The Orlando Chapter of CHUMS agreed to use our game of bridge as a vehicle to support children in the areas of math, manners and mentoring.  Imagine that!  They learned rules and manners that will transfer to their daily skills in living by playing the game according to bridge rules and were required to be polite to their partner and their opponents.  Their behavior was monitored as they had the opportunity to enhance their memory, mathematical, logical reasoning and analytical skills.

The highlight of the eight week endeavor was the opportunity for the children with the best attendance record to kibitz in the Bridge Studio at the OMBC and to have lunch out (after receiving instruction for dining formally).

Dr. Chuck Armbruster was tapped by
